History of Kim Bong Carpentry Village

According to records, the first people in the village were originally from Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, who migrated here in the 16th century to start a business. They brought their skills to create houses from bamboo and wood, and later on, boats and household items with meticulous and sophisticated carvings.

At the beginning of the 17th century, when trading activities became bustling, Kim Bong also reached its prosperity. Many carpenters from the village were recruited by the Nguyen Dynasty to build palaces and mausoleums for the kings in Hue. By the 18th century, the village had formed three distinct groups of occupations: construction carpentry, boat building carpentry and civil carpentry.
