Ganh Da Dia

The coastal area of Dak Lak is famous for its wild natural scenery, sometimes it is called a colourful painting with “blue sea, white sand and golden sunshine”. Besides beautiful beaches stretching along the central coast of Vietnam, this land is also famous for Ganh Da Dia (or Ghenh Da Dia), which means Sea Cliff of Stone Plates. Let’s see what makes it a highlight for a trip in the coastal center of Vietnam

Ganh Da Dia is considered a masterpiece bestowed by nature, becoming a symbol of tourism in coastal Dak Lak. Thanks to its special geological and historical values, on December 31, 2020, Ganh Da Dia was recognised as a Special National Monument.
As can be seen in the name, Ganh Da Dia stands out with its unique basalt rock structure and the amazing natural beauty. According to research documents, the rock formed by volcanic activity hundreds of millions of years ago. The lava flows that erupted from the volcano froze when they met cold water, and these lava blocks cracked and broke, creating rocks with unique shapes.

In addition to this, there are also many fascinating legends about the birth of Ganh Da Dia. Whether real or legendary, these stories make this landscape even more mysterious and attractive to tourists who love to explore indigenous culture.

To get to Ganh Da Dia, starting from Tuy Hoa Airport, you can get to Hung Vuong Avenue, then National Highway 1A and keep going North for about 23 kilometers. After that, turn right at Phu Diem Intersection and continue moving another 24 kilometers East to get there. In addition, you can also take the scenic 43-kilometer coastal route to admire the beauty of the sea at the same time.
You may go through Hung Vuong Bridge on your way to Ganh Da Dia
You can get here either by motorbike or private car, but the motorbike will give you more mobility. There is a parking area at the site, so visitors can rest assured about where to park their vehicles, then walk to the strait to admire the majestic natural scenery and enjoy the cool sea breeze.
The best time of the year for tourists to come to Ganh Da Dia is from February to September. At this time, the weather is dry, favourable for tourism and also safer for you to move on the rocks here, which are less slippery and dangerous. In addition, the Cau Ngu festival (a traditional festival of Vietnamese coastal fishermen) is held in June, so you can also visit the coastal area of Dak Lak at this time to immerse yourself in the culture as well.
For the time of the day, the early morning (around 7:00 a.m. or earlier) and late afternoon (after 3:00 p.m.) will be ideal for enjoying the scenery and taking photos. At this time, the light is soft, not too harsh, creating a photogenic effect. Avoid the harsh midday sun, as well as the hot rock surface.

Stretching for about 50 meters wide and over 200 meters long, the cliff forms a spectacular sight that you can easily see from afar. From above, you can see the sea encroachment area with hexagonal-shaped rocks. Some pillars are vertical, some are crooked, tightly attached like giant pieces of wax, creating a solid whole with a shiny black colour. This is the highlight that makes this one of the most unique geological wonders in Vietnam.
The unique stacks of rocks are the highlights of Ganh Da Dia
In addition to the beauty of the unique stack of rocks, this place is also a paradise of the sea and gentle waves, splashing white foam onto the shore. This place also has the beauty of changing sea water colour at different times of the day. Also, the sunlight shines down, making the rocks reflect sparkling light, creating an impressive visual effect. Because of this, it is becoming a check-in spot not to be missed when travelling to coastal Dak Lak.

The sunrise and sunset scene at Ganh Da Dia always captivates visitors with the magical change of colour on each rock. When the sun just rises, the jet-black rocks seem to be covered with a shimmering golden coat, shining brightly under the typical early morning sunlight of the Central Coast.

Although the sunset is not directly visible at Ganh Da Dia, the radiant hue from the sun would still make it worth visiting in the late afternoon. The sunset dyes the whole space with a vibrant orange, pink and purple colour, making the rocks look softer than ever. Every moment of the day, Ganh Da Dia brings a new feeling, making anyone who has visited never forget it.
