Dam Trau beach is a spectacular place in Con Dao
Dam Trau beach is not merely a tourist sight of natural beauty but is also full of local tradition and romantic myth. It is said that the beach acquired its name, "Dam Trau" (Trau Pond or Trau Lagoon), from a story of tragic love between Cau and Trau. According to legend, Cau saved Trau from being drowned, and they became lovers.
Later, when Cau needed to wed Trau, he found out she was his half-sister, in great grief, Cau left and passed away on another island (now called Hon Cau), on which an areca (cau) tree grew over his tomb. Trau waited daily on a cliff, and eventually leaped into the sea at the beach now known as Dam Trau.

Dam Trau beach is near Co Ong Airport on Con Dao Island, near Con Dao National Park. It's around 4 km from Con Dao town (some say 14 km, which of course depends on the route). The beach is on the periphery of the national park and thus a combination of ocean and woodland scenery.
