How to get there

Located in western Thai Nguyen, Vai Mieu Lake is just about 100km from Hanoi. Tourists can go there by car or motorbike. The trip will take nearly 2 hours. Vai Mieu Lake hasn’t been a professionally invested tourist destination yet, so the road might be quite difficult to travel. Therefore, you can ride a motorbike to travel more conveniently.

Visit Long Khanh Tu Temple

Long Khanh Tu is also known as Sang Temple. Although its location is close to the lake, not everyone knows about this sacred place. Long Khanh Temple used to be at the foot of the current Vai Mieu dam. In 1998, to serve the construction of the Vai Mieu reservoir, the local government moved the temple about 100m from the old location, close to provincial road 261.

According to the locals, the local people built Long Khanh Tu Temple to worship Than Ran (Snake God). In the past, the temple had wooden pillars and was roofed with grass and bamboo. The temple was about 50 square meters wide. There were 3 altars inside: the upper, the middle, and the lower altar. 

In 1941, Mr. Ngo Van De, the most prestigious person in Sang Hamlet, called on everyone to donate to rebuild the temple. People contributed labor and money to build the temple and carve the bell. And the temple was built with bricks and tiled roof from then on, with the altars as before, completed in the same year.

Taking a boat ride

Vai Mieu Lake attracts many tourists for its layers of clear blue water, especially in the summer. Coming here, visitors can go sightseeing by renting a motorboat to go around, which will bring a unique feeling of peace and relaxation. 

Taking a boat deep into the lake, tourists will encounter a babbling stream and immerse in the wild, pristine scenery.
