What does ‘Cua Tu’ mean?

Cua Tu can be understood as the Death’s Gate. According to the locals, there are many ways to explain this name. One version says that in the past, during the resistance war, local troops often used tricks to deceive and lure the enemy into this mountainous area. Here, the dense trees and scenery distracted the enemy, and our guerillas took the opportunity to defeat them. Therefore, the name ‘Cua Tu’ is associated with the invaders’ failure.

Best time to visit

The road to Cua Tu Stream is quite easy and not too steep. Therefore, you can come here at any time of the year. However, summer is still the most ideal time. The weather is dry and hot, making it perfect to immerse in the cool water.

Besides, you should avoid trekking Cua Tu on days of heavy rain. At this time, the road is very slippery, and the stream water also rises, which is very dangerous. Checking the weather forecast in advance is suggested to plan a suitable schedule.

Trekking

Cua Tu Stream in Thai Nguyen consists of 7 waterfalls, named Cua Tu 1 to Cua Tu 7. The stream flows through cliffs, clings to the majestic mountainside, and lies between the large, green canopy of ancient trees. Tourists flock here to explore this extremely attractive beauty.

The Cua Tu trekking route gets more slippery and wet as it goes higher. Trekkers have to cross mossy, rocky areas and narrow trails. Usually, if you only have one day of trekking, Cua Tu waterfalls 1, 2, and 3 are recommended. If your trip lasts longer, you can conquer all 7 waterfalls.

After passing through the first forest, the eye-catching natural beauty starts revealing itself. There is a stone slide formed by water erosion over millions of years. Tourists used to be able to play the waterfall slide here, but the slide is now only 1m long due to a flood in 2024. However, Cua Tu 1 Waterfall still provides spaces to bathe and enjoy the cool stream waters.

The waterfall pours down from above, creating white foam. The Cua Tu 1 Waterfall is the most peaceful, while the second and third waterfalls are wilder and more turbulent. Surrounding the waterfall are tree trunks with intricate roots, moss-covered cliffs, and rays of sunlight shining through the foliage, sparkling on the stream's surface.
