Po Nagar Temple dates back to the 8th to 13th century when it was built by the Cham people, the rulers of long standing of the Champa Kingdom. The temple was dedicated to the goddess Yan Po Nagar, who was also revered as the Mother of the Land and protector of the Cham people. It is said that she created the earth, trees, and rice and taught people how to cultivate and coexist with nature.
