Introduction

Nui Chua was only established as a national park in 2003, yet in less than 20 years, it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. This swift recognition is thanks to its astonishing ecological diversity: within an area of 106,000 hectares, you'll find mountains, forests, semi-deserts, and marine ecosystems all in one place.

Characterized by the hot and dry climate typical of Ninh Thuan Province, this is considered the driest ecological forest in Vietnam. However, its biodiversity is far from scarce. In fact, it's incredibly rich and vibrant. Let Asia King Travel take you on a journey to explore this unique national park.

Location

Nui Chua National Park is located along the coast of Ninh Hai District, Ninh Thuan Province, about 30 kilometers north of the provincial capital, Phan Rang – Thap Cham. However, for international travelers, the journey usually begins from Cam Ranh City (Khanh Hoa Province), about 60 kilometers to the south.

How to get there

From the airport, head to the center of Cam Ranh City, then take National Highway 1A (Hung Vuong Street) heading south. When you reach the junction with Ninh Thuan Province (where it intersects with Provincial Road 702), turn onto that road and enjoy the stunning coastal route leading to Nui Chua National Park. The white sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue waters sparkling under the golden sunlight will leave you more eager.

Best time to visit

The climate in Nui Chua National Park is strongly influenced by the tropical monsoon, resulting in two distinct seasons. The dry season typically lasts from January to September, while the rainy season runs from late September to December. The best time to visit is between March and September, when the summer sunshine brings out the park’s most vibrant and captivating landscapes.

Keep in mind that the weather can be extremely dry and hot, with humidity dropping as low as 20% during the dry season. So make sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection. Insect repellent will also make your time in the forest much more comfortable. And don’t forget your swimwear, there’s a beach waiting for you!

Ticket prices

Ticket prices vary depending on the area you want to visit, with an average cost of around  VND 40,000 per person. If you plan to explore all areas, the total cost will be about VND 200,000. Additionally, be prepared for some extra expenses such as electric vehicle rentals for sightseeing or parking fees.

The marine area also boasts the largest nearshore coral reef system in Vietnam, with over 350 species of coral, 46 of which have only recently been recorded in the country. It’s also a crucial nesting site for sea turtle populations, which return here to breed annually under strict protection.

Hang Rai

The first must-visit spot is Hang Rai. You'll be amazed by the majestic natural scenery, where uniquely shaped rocks are stacked upon one another, forming fascinating caves and formations that catch the eye. In fact, this area is actually an ancient, millions-of-years-old coral reef that has fossilized over time, creating a diverse and visually striking rocky landscape.

Nui Chua Peak

With an elevation of 1,039 meters, harsh weather conditions, and rugged terrain, trekking to the summit of Nui Chua is considered a tough challenge, reserved for those with good physical fitness. But that’s exactly what makes the journey so thrilling, an irresistible adventure for those who love exploration and the thrill of conquest.

Lo O Stream

The reward for choosing the trekking route is the chance to witness the majestic beauty of the primeval forest and immerse yourself in the untouched charm of Lo O Stream. Tucked away deep in the lush mountains, the crystal-clear, refreshing water flows over high rocks to form a stunning waterfall. Just imagine trekking under the blazing central Vietnam sun and suddenly coming across this cool, soothing stream!

However, the rocky path here can be quite rough and challenging to navigate, so it's best to check the weather beforehand and consider going with a group or having a local guide to assist you.

Bai Rua (Turtle Beach)

Bai Rua gets its name from being an annual nesting site for sea turtles. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, this spot still manages to reveal its breathtaking beauty, both mystical and poetically romantic. Many visitors choose to camp overnight here to catch the stunning sunrise the next morning. But not just here, many other untouched beaches are waiting for you to discover.
