In 1890, following a shipwreck caused by colliding with a reef in the Quy Nhon sea area, the French authorities made the decision to construct a lighthouse on the picturesque island of Cu Lao Xanh, known as Plogam Bir. This lighthouse stands as the earliest of its kind in our nation. Throughout the past century, Plogam Bir has stood unwaveringly as a reliable guide for fishing boats navigating these waters from various parts of the country. Ticket price to Cu Lao Xanh: 500,000 VND – 750,000 VND
If tourists buy a tour, the package cost for 2 days and 1 night is about 500,000 VND. If you travel by yourself, you will save a bit more because there are only a few basic costs as follows: Round trip ferry ticket is about 60,000 VND, overnight stay cost is 50,000 VND (if you set up a tent, you can save this cost). Eating for 2 days depends on personal needs, but 300,000 - 400,000 VND should be comfortable.
The optimal period for visiting Cu Lao Xanh is between February and September. During this period, Quy Nhon experiences delightful and sunny weather with minimal rainfall and calm sea waves, providing excellent conditions for exploration and recreation.
Nevertheless, this timeframe tends to attract a significant number of tourists to Cu Lao Xanh. If you prefer a more serene and tranquil experience, consider planning your visit around September or October. During these months, you can relish the untamed beauty of the island with fewer crowds.
To reach Cu Lao Xanh, travelers need to head to Ham Tu pier, situated in the heart of Quy Nhon city. The pier offers parking facilities for both motorcycles and cars.
The most expeditious mode of transport to the island is by canoe, complemented by wooden boats as an alternative. The canoe journey typically takes approximately 30-40 minutes. The one-way ticket cost is approximately 200,000 VND per person, with departures at 7:30 am and returns around 2:00 pm.
For those opting for the wooden boat, the travel time extends to nearly two hours, and the ticket price is 30,000 VND. Two daily trips are scheduled, departing at 8:00 am and 1:00 pm, with return boats departing at 7:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Alternatively, visitors can also arrange boat rentals from fishermen at Bai Xep in Phu Yen to access the island. This option takes a little over an hour, and the price is subject to negotiation
