About Tranh Stream

Tranh Stream is a natural attraction in Phu Quoc. For many years, local people have considered it a place to unwind after work and hold traditional festivals. Hence, there is no doubt that this stream is not just a tourist attraction, but also an integral part of the islanders’ daily life and cultural heritage.

Even today, much of its original charm remains intact. The forest is still green and quiet. At the same time, Tranh Stream continues to flow in its natural course. This unspoiled beauty explains why it has the name “Tranh,” which in Vietnamese means “painting.” To many local people, the harmony of water and forest was a picture drawn by nature itself.

For further information, Tranh Stream originates in the Ham Ninh mountain range and extends approximately 15 kilometers through lush forest. As you keep moving forward, a two-meter waterfall would appear in front of your eyes. At the foot of this waterfall, water gathers into a large natural pool about 1 to 1.5 meters deep.

It is quite obvious that what makes Tranh Stream special is not size or height, but the way it gives visitors a quiet break from the busier parts of Phu Quoc.

Best time to visit

The charm of Tranh Stream changes with seasons, which is why you really need to think this through when visiting the waterfall.

During the rainy months from May to October, since rainwater feeds the stream, it turns into the most powerful form. Besides cool and clear water flow, the forest also becomes more lively than ever before. All of these factors contribute to an ideal time for some trekking sessions.

When dry season arrives between November and April, the flow becomes gentler. Tranh Stream may somewhat not too awe-inspiring, but the calm atmosphere here is enough to display the peaceful side of Phu Quoc.

Fishing at Tranh Stream

Fishing at Tranh Stream is mostly about slowing down rather than chasing a big catch. You find a quiet spot, drop your line into the water, and let the stream do the rest. Nearby, sound of birdsong will keep you company, while cool breeze makes the wait seem more pleasant.

And if you are interested in a true local legend, the giant snakehead fish will be a must-see thing. Caught by villagers in 2019 and now being shown in the stream’s tourism area, this impressive creature weighs nearly 10 kilograms. Its unusual markings with three pink spots across its head and a tail that sways just above the surface never fail to fascinate visitors.
