Dong Nai has a lot of natural attractions
The land that is now Dong Nai used to be quite wild and uninhabited. In 1621, Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen sent envoys to the Khmer Empire to express his intention of reclaiming and cultivating the area. Vietnamese settlers began migrating here to farm and develop the land, gradually turning it into a prosperous region. In 1836, Emperor Minh Mang officially established Bien Hoa Province, marking the birth of what is now Dong Nai Province.
After the Vietnam War ended, Dong Nai Province was established based on the merger of three former provinces under the administration of South Vietnam. Bien Hoa City developed a strong economy and became the industrial hub of the Southeast region. On July 1, 2025, Binh Phuoc Province was merged into Dong Nai. After the merger, the province covered an area of 12,737 square kilometers and had a population of approximately 4.5 million people.
Dong Nai Province is a part of the Southeast region of Vietnam. After merging with Binh Phuoc Province, it now borders the Central Highlands region. In the northern part of the province, many areas reflect the rich cultural identity of the Central Highlands' ethnic minorities. The terrain gradually slopes downward toward the south, where the lowland plains are located.
Bien Hoa is connected to Ho Chi Minh City, forming a grand metropolitan area
To the east, the province borders Lam Dong; to the west, it borders Tay Ninh. Ho Chi Minh City lies to the southwest and south of the province. The northern part shares a border with Cambodia.
The fastest way to get to Dong Nai is to fly into Ho Chi Minh City, then head north to Bien Hoa via the Dai Han Highway (National Highway 1A) or follow Pham Van Dong Street and then Hoang Cam Street (National Highway 1K). You can take a passenger bus, public bus, or ride-hailing service, with prices ranging from VND 20,000 to VND 150,000 per person, depending on the type of transportation you choose.
Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province is under construction. Once finished, it will shorten travel distances and become the largest airport in Vietnam.
Dong Nai has the typical southern Vietnamese climate, with warm weather year-round and two main seasons. The dry season usually lasts from December to April, while the rainy season extends from May to November. The average temperature is around 27°C and high humidity levels. These are ideal conditions for tropical rainforests to thrive, most notably in Cat Tien National Park.
The weather is the key factor that contributes to much of Dong Nai’s natural beauty
If you want a dry trip to explore natural attractions, the period from late November to April is a great choice. Among these months, January and February are the most ideal, with cool and pleasant weather.

Tan Mai Village in Bien Hoa is well-known for its freshwater fish farming. The local fishermen prepare a variety of delicious fish dishes, but the most talked-about is the fish salad. Fresh fish is first cleaned and filleted, then the meat is marinated with lemongrass, galangal, and spices, and finally mixed with roasted rice powder. To fully enjoy the flavors, diners wrap the fish salad and fresh herbs in rice crackers, then dip it into a sweet sauce made from fish fat.

Tan Trieu Village is becoming a tourist destination ready to welcome you to enjoy its signature specialty: pomelo! You’ll be enchanted by the light, fragrant scent of pomelo in the air, and as you venture deeper, you’ll easily spot lush green pomelo orchards heavy with fruit lining both sides of the road. Tan Trieu pomelos have a thin green rind and a delicately sweet flavor. Not only are they famous in Vietnam, but they’ve also been exported to European countries.
The pomelo salad will surprise you in the best way
Dishes made from pomelo that you shouldn’t miss include pomelo wine, pomelo sweet soup, and most notably, pomelo salad. Ripe pomelo segments are mixed with boiled shrimp and thinly sliced pork belly, then topped with roasted peanuts, chili, and fresh herbs. The salad is not only visually appealing but also perfectly balanced in flavors: sour, spicy, sweet, and salty. It’s a surprising combination, but an absolutely delightful one.
The former Binh Phuoc Province was nicknamed the "cashew capital" as it was the largest cashew-growing area in the country. From the very first bite, you'll immediately taste their subtle sweetness, rich buttery flavor, and irresistible crunch.
