Best time to visit

Can Tho City is less affected by harsh weather conditions, and each season has its own beauty. Therefore, the best time to visit Can Tho will depend on your destinations. The dry season, from May to August, is ideal for visiting on-land attractions. On the other hand, September to November is the rainy season, which is perfect for cruising along the Mekong River and experiencing the rustic life of Western Vietnamese.

History

Can Tho Museum was originally the Conservation-Museum Unit, officially established in June 1978. This department was responsible for collecting and preserving artifacts that were used for revolutionary educational purposes.

On July 31, 1980, the Conservation-Museum Unit was renamed the Hau Giang Museum, which preserved more than 1,500 artifacts related to the locals' resistance tradition against invaders.

In 1992, Hau Giang Province was divided into 2 units, Can Tho and Soc Trang Provinces, resulting in the museum being renamed again as the Museum of Can Tho Province. In 2004, another province division took place, which divided the Can Tho Province into Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province. The museum then had its current name as the Museum of Can Tho City (or Can Tho Museum).
