The visit to the royal tombs of Hue begins with the tomb of Tu Duc, built between 1864 and 1867 by King Tu Duc himself (fourth king of the Nguyen dynasty, 1847-1883). Besides its use as a burial site, this tomb, covering approximately 12 hectares, was also the residence of the king during his lifetime. Made up of two distinct areas, the temple area and the burial area, it served as a place of residence for minor wives, concubines and eunuchs after the king's death in 1883.
