The Bangkok International Festival of Dance & Music is Thailand’s largest annual arts event, first held in 1999. For more than two decades, the festival has become a beloved meeting point for artists and audiences worldwide, where the finest of the arts is showcased. Ranging from opera, ballet, musicals, and contemporary dance to international circus, come together on one stage: the Thailand Cultural Centre in Bangkok.

Each edition of the festival typically lasts for over a month, drawing dozens of performing troupes from around the globe. With its world-class showcases, the event reaffirms Bangkok’s status as a true international hub of culture and the arts.
This year’s Bangkok festival promises to dazzle with 14 performances from more than 10 countries. The diverse cultural identities of Russia, India, China, Spain, and other countries will be reflected in their enthralling performances. Notably, for the first time, the audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the legendary voice of Plácido Domingo, one of the world’s greatest tenors, on September 23.

The 27th Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music kicked off at the Thailand Cultural Centre on September 6, 2025. Inspired by India's epic Mahabharata, the first performance, "Mahabharata: 18 Days, Dusk of an Era," tells the story of the 18-day conflict between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. To tell the tale in the language of modern music, over fifty performers performed, danced, and sang religious chants.

The choice of the Mahabharata as the opening performance symbolizes the fusion of culture and contemporary art. By setting the festival’s spirit from the very first night, it ensures that audiences will fully enjoy the pinnacle of artistic excellence throughout the six weeks of Bangkok cultural events.
One of the most anticipated events of this year’s festival is the debut performance by legendary Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo in Bangkok 2025. Plácido Domingo, one of the most important characters in classical music history, has transformed opera for audiences across the world with more than 150 opera roles in 4,000 performances and 12 Grammy Awards.

This historic night becomes even more extraordinary as he shares the stage with two stars of classical music: American soprano Monica Conesa and pioneering Italian conductor Beatrice Venezi, hailed as one of the most powerful women in classical music. Together, they will create an unforgettable operatic masterpiece. More than just a performance, it will be a moment of musical history.
One of the most well-known of Chinese literature's "Four Classic Chinese Novels" is Dream of Red Mansions. Through the grace of Western dance, the National dance of China will retell the tale, bringing themes of love, longing, and the unavoidable fall of a noble family to life. With more than 80 dancers, the company will bring the tragic love triangle to life through expressive choreography and a commanding stage presence.

Not only that, the China National Acrobatic Troupe will deliver a breathtaking acrobatic performance. The program features award-winning aerial stunts and daring feats. Renowned for their precision and incredible strength, the troupe will showcase China’s world-famous acrobatic tradition, blending athleticism and artistry into a spectacular show.
Prepare yourself for four amazing productions from the Samara Opera and Ballet Theatre in the festival's second half. Tosca and Aida are the main attractions. Two renowned operas that tell timeless stories of love, loss, and power and are performed by a cast of more than 250 people.
The Nutcracker is the beloved Christmas ballet by Tchaikovsky
The magic continues with an entirely new production of “The Nutcracker”, created exclusively for their visit to Thailand. Completing the lineup is the deeply moving contemporary ballet “Three Masks of the King”, a dramatic reflection on power, identity, and the courage to embrace one’s true essence. Showcasing Russian ballet at its most precise and majestic, Samara Opera and Ballet Theatre remains the only company in the world to perform this work.
Cuba’s Lizt Alfonso brings “Cuba Vibra”, a dynamic fusion of rumba, mambo, Latin jazz, and rock. The troupe’s previous Broadway performances earned them international acclaim, and their Bangkok showcase promises to be just as captivating. For lovers of dance and Latin music, “Cuba Vibra” will deliver the heartbeat of Havana straight to the Bangkok stage.

For a more introspective experience, Rafaela Carrasco from Spain will perform “Nocturna, Architecture of Insomnia,” a flamenco ballet interwoven with Bach music and original poetry.
Next, step into the future with “Pixel”, a groundbreaking French production that fuses street music, contemporary dance, and cutting-edge visual technology. Featuring 3D graphics, projection mapping, and interactive special effects, this performance is a breathtaking visual spectacle that will leave audiences in awe.
Two performances will showcase the power of modern sound and lighting
Bulgaria's PRJCT360 will showcase "NINA," a jazz-age drama that combines dance and cinematic LED visuals to create a thrilling new fusion of modern technology and traditional performance. Both theatergoers and tech enthusiasts are anticipated to be enthralled by this production's inventive fusion of dance, film, and live performance.
The Bangkok festival will conclude with a magnificent performance by the Prague Philharmonia Orchestra from the Czech Republic, joined by the talented pianist George Li. The concert will feature some of the most beloved symphonic works, bringing a meaningful close to this celebration of classical music. With the orchestra’s Grammy-winning reputation and Li’s exceptional artistry, the evening promises a world-class musical experience.

Tickets for the 27th Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music are officially distributed through the Thai Ticket Major system from June 14 until before the final night. It is a trusted platform for major arts and entertainment events in Thailand. A variety of ticket tiers are available to suit different audiences, ranging from THB 1,600 to THB 12,000. Special nights, such as the performance featuring Plácido Domingo, are priced higher.
