One day, a Zen master named Le Duyet arrived at the mountain and build a small hermitage. He lived a simple life, just ate forest leaves and roots as well as drank water from a natural spring nearby to survive. Eventually, the spring dried up. Determined to continue his practice, he started digging a well by his bare hands. He had dug more than eight meters deep but could not find any water.

At that moment, a young monk suddenly appeared and asked for shelter. After that, he also offered to help the master dig the well. Soon after, clear water gushed up from the ground. However, when the master turned around to thank the monk, he had already vanished.
Many people believed that the monk was a divine being, sent by the Buddha in response to the master’s devotion. Since then, the well has been called Buddha’s Well. For hundreds of years, it has never run dry and remains a symbol of faith and spiritual strength on Thien An Mountain.

Thien An Mountain lies on the left bank of the Tra Khuc River, right between Tinh An Dong Commune and Truong Quang Trong Ward in Quang Ngai City. Located just about 3.5 kilometers from the city center, this mountain becomes a peaceful escape that’s still close to town.

Since Quang Ngai Province doesn’t have its own airport, the most convenient way to get there is by air via Chu Lai International Airport in Quang Nam. Then, take a coach ride to Quang Ngai City for only about 40 kilometers.
From the city center, your journey continues eastward on Nguyen Nghiem Street, then turn onto Quang Trung Street after about 30 meters. Keep going until you reach the first roundabout. Take the second exit and follow the road toward the nearby bridge. After 800 meters, turn right onto Tran Van Tra Street, moving straight until you reach another roundabout.
Again, take the second exit onto National Road 24B. After travelling for approximately 1.1 kilometers, make a left turn and soon, you’ll spot Thien An Mountain from a distance.
