Itineraries
The boat will depart from Luang Prabang at 7:00 AM, traveling upstream on the Mekong River towards Pakbeng. Continental breakfast will be served on board.
In the morning, we will make a stop to visit the Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting), home to over two thousand Buddha statues. This site is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for the Lao people.
A traditional Lao lunch set will be served on board.
In the afternoon, our English-speaking guide will organize a small lecture to explain the various ethnicities in Laos, providing guests with a deeper understanding of the region's cultural diversity.
The boat will arrive in Pakbeng before nightfall, where you will spend the evening. Overnight stay in Pakbeng.
Embark on the boat at 7:00 AM. Your hotel in Pakbeng will typically provide a takeaway breakfast box for the travelers to enjoy on board.
In the morning, our guide and cook will conduct a short demonstration on how to prepare traditional Lao desserts and local drinks, which travelers will enjoy later in the afternoon.
Just before lunch, the boat will make a stop to visit a traditional Kamu village, Ban Kaeng Lae, a quaint village that hosts about 70 families. Travelers will have the opportunity to learn about the rural lifestyle in this remote area.
A traditional Lao lunch set will be served on board.
Before reaching Houay Xay pier, enjoy the homemade desserts and drinks prepared by our team and the travelers.
The boat will arrive at the destination before 4:30 PM. For those continuing their journey to Thailand, there is the possibility to proceed on the same day.

Price includes
- Transfer by Tuk Tuk from Houay Xay slow boat Pier to the Lao immigration office.
- Transfer in Luang Prabang from your hotel to boat pier.

Remark
- For downstream, our boats leave Houay Xay pier at 9:00 AM. So please be at the immigration office in Houay Xay by 8:30 AM at the latest. One of our guides will wait with a sign of your name.
- For upstream, our boats leave Luang Prabang at 7:00 AM. Our driver will pick up you at your hotel from 0630am and transport you directly to the CALAO boat pier.
- From October to February, it can get cold during the cruise; please do not forget to bring a jacket and warm clothes.
- When you arrive in Pakbeng, you may choose to safely and securely leave your luggage and suitcases onboard with the crew overnight. Bring a smaller overnight bag to carry to and from your hotel for your convenience.
- For safety reasons and according to the weather conditions, the program may change without prior notice.
- Our boats are specially made for cruising in the Mekong. 40-meters long, they are equipped with 200 horsepower engines. The hulls are made of steel and passenger decks onboard are made of precious local woods (rosewood and teak). With a sun deck lounge area in the front, a 10 table and 40 seat areas in the middle, and a bar and sitting area in the back, you will certainly enjoy a very comfortable and relaxing time during the cruise.
We welcome up to 40 passengers on 10 tables on each cruise. With an open lounge space, a bar and a restaurant serving fine cuisine, you can enjoy landscapes and sceneries along the river in style and comfort. Electricity (220V) is also provided during the whole trip. Newspapers, magazines and games are available on board.
Life safety jackets are provided. - Please enjoy our homemade Lao gastronomy and the richness of its local flavour. Mekong fish will be served at least once on your journey. Complimentary bottle of water, coffee, tea are included in the package. And our bar provides beer, soft drinks, and other snacks for purchase. For special food requests or dietary restrictions, please let us know in advance.
