Huong Tich Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam, dating back thousands of years. There are no records of the exact construction time, but it is believed that the pagoda was built in the 13th century during the Tran Dynasty.
According to orally handed down stories, Huong Tich Pagoda is associated with the story of Princess Dieu Thien, daughter of King Trang Vuong. When she learned that her father wanted to force her to marry a cruel military officer, Dieu Thien entered a convent. After being saved by Buddha, she stopped at Huong Tich cave and established a hermitage to practice Buddhism there.

Later, when she heard that her father was sick, she offered her eyes and hands to save him. Buddha was touched and used magic to restore Dieu Thien’s eyes and grow her hands back. She practiced and attained enlightenment, transforming into the Guanyin with a thousand eyes and a thousand hands.
Huong Tich Pagoda was mostly destroyed due to a major fire that broke out in the year of At Dau 1885. Then it was rebuilt in 1901. The pagoda was recognized as a National Cultural and Scenic Relic by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture and Information in 1990.
The relic complex of Huong Pagoda in Ha Tinh includes many temples and other structures. Besides worshipping Buddha, it also contains worshipping other saints in the cultural beliefs of the Vietnamese people. The Tam Bao Palace in Huong Pagoda currently houses 54 ancient Buddha statues made of rare wood with a history of thousands of years. The stone steps and foundation have traces of moss and are almost intact, according to the old structure.
