Yuanyang is a district of Honghe, south of Yunnan Province. It is the place that houses the Hani minority ethnic group. Yuanyang attracts tourists and photographers around the world with its mountainous landscapes and rice terraces.
The terraced fields are beautiful and large scale. They extend to many cities along the southern shore of the Red River, such as Yuanyang, Lüchun and Jinping among others. With an area of more than 28,005.3 acres, the Yuanyang County Terrace is considered the central area of the Hani terraces because the county is mountainous and terraces built on hillsides have a slope ranging from 15 degrees to 75 degrees. The terraces rise from 3,000 steps, forming a rare landscape. Overall, the Yuanyang terraces of Hani form three large picturesque areas: the picturesque area of Duoyishu, the picturesque area of Bada and the picturesque area of Laohuzui (the mouth of the tiger). So many terraces between vast forests, surmounted by an ocean of clouds, create a magical and magnificent view.
Note: The best time to admire the landscape of rice terraces of Yuanyang is from November to April.
